Pico Laser for Pigmentation: Why It's Different
How does a pico laser differ from traditional Q-switched lasers? In one word: speed.
Picosecond pulses are so short that pigment particles are broken up predominantly by a photomechanical effect rather than heat. Less heat delivered to the skin means a lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — historically the biggest concern when treating pigment in Indian skin.
Pico lasers perform well on stubborn pigmentation, sun damage and uneven tone, often in fewer sessions. One important caveat: in melasma, any laser is used cautiously and only as part of a broader management plan — because melasma is a chronic condition that overtreatment can aggravate.
